- Earned Schedule (ES) translates schedule performance into time units rather than the cost units used by traditional Schedule Variance (SV = EV - PV). ES finds the time at which the current EV should have been earned, producing SV(t) and SPI(t) in time units. Traditional SV becomes unreliable near project end (converging to zero regardless of actual delays), while ES metrics remain meaningful throughout the entire project lifecycle.
