- A lag is a required waiting time between activities — for example, a 3-day lag on an FS relationship means the successor cannot start until 3 days after the predecessor finishes (e.g., concrete curing time). A lead is an acceleration or overlap — a 2-day lead on an FS relationship means the successor can start 2 days before the predecessor finishes. Lags add time, leads subtract it. Both modify the basic logical relationship.
