  - Sub-optimization occurs when improving individual parts of a system does not improve (and may harm) the overall system performance. In systems thinking, optimizing components independently often leads to local optima that create bottlenecks or conflicts elsewhere. True improvement requires optimizing the whole system and understanding interactions between components, not just improving parts in isolation.
