Hotspot Solution:
Yes — Single is the default (and recommended) direction When you create a one-to-many relationship from ProductCategory (1) → Product (many), Power BI defaults to single-directional filtering from ProductCategory to Product. This supports clean, top-down slicing: Select a category, see all associated products. ❗ But — analyzing sales by category requires filter flow in the opposite direction Sales data typically lives in a fact table like Sales, related to Products through ProductID. So to see sales by product category, Power BI needs to follow this path: ProductCategory → Product → Sales That’s a natural, single-direction chain — no bidirectionality required — if all relationships go downward from dimensions to facts.

Cross filter direction could be both, and that would provide a better report experience with the slicers in my opinion, but using single is the better performing and therefore default option.
