Although - option D is also correct, I would choose C and E 1) what we know 100% - we can disconnect uses using Callback url reference: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/apigateway/latest/developerguide/apigateway-how-to-call-websocket-api.html 2) we definitely need to implement $connect and $disconnect routes (to identify during runtime) 3) we cannot technically track a user spamming connections if we don't pass this info logically to each invocation - and technically without persistence this is a mission impossible
