Why it is False: A Virtual Warehouse only consumes Snowflake credits when it is actively running and executing queries or data loading operations. When a warehouse is in an Inactive (Suspended) state, it releases its underlying cloud compute resources and completely stops consuming compute credits.
By default, all warehouses have the auto-suspend setting enabled, which means a warehouse automatically shuts down when it is inactive for a defined period of time. A suspended warehouse does not consume credits, so the warehouse only incurs cost when it is processing a workload.
A warehouse continues to consume credits if it is still technically running, even if it’s inactive (not executing queries). It only stops consuming credits when it is fully suspended. Running → Inactive → Auto-suspend → Suspended
