Carbon dioxide (CO2) fire suppression system needs to be combined with an automatic switch to shut down the electricity supply in the event of activation. This is because CO2 systems displace oxygen, creating an environment that could be hazardous to humans
Carbon dioxide (CO₂) fire suppression systems are effective at extinguishing fires by displacing oxygen, but CO₂ is dangerous to humans because it can cause suffocation in enclosed spaces. Therefore, to ensure safety, a CO₂ system must be combined with an automatic switch to shut down electrical power when the system activates. This prevents electrical hazards and reduces risks to personnel. Why not the others? A. FM-200 ➤ A clean agent that is safe for occupied spaces; no mandatory power shutdown required. B. Dry pipe ➤ A sprinkler system that uses water; shutting down power is not a typical requirement. D. Halon ➤ Also a clean agent (though now largely phased out); typically no mandatory power shutdown is required.
Dry pipe uses water and requires shutdown of electricity
