- In a projectized organization, the project manager has high to almost total authority over the project team and resources. Team members are assigned directly to projects, and the PM controls the budget, schedule, and resource assignments. This is the most project-friendly organizational structure. In contrast, a functional organization gives the PM minimal authority (coordinator role), and matrix organizations share authority between the PM and functional managers to varying degrees (weak, balanced, or strong matrix).
