- The traditional triple constraint (iron triangle) consists of Scope, Time (Schedule), and Cost. These three elements are interdependent - changing one will impact at least one of the others. For example, increasing scope typically increases cost and/or time. Some modern interpretations expand this to include Quality, Risk, and Resources, but the classic triple constraint is Scope, Time, and Cost. Understanding these constraints is fundamental to project management because the PM must balance them to deliver successful projects.
