- Level of Development (LOD) is a specification that defines the minimum content, reliability, and intended use of BIM elements at different project stages. LOD ranges from LOD 100 (conceptual/schematic) through LOD 200, 300, 350, 400 (fabrication) to LOD 500 (as-built). Specifying LOD is important because it sets clear expectations about what information the model contains at each stage, preventing both over-modeling and under-modeling.
